FAQ

  • First things first, pat yourself on the back. You’re off to a great start! Feel free to reach out via the contact page, email me at amandawhitehurstlcsw@gmail.com, or call at 615-510-7573. We’ll schedule a 15-minute consultation call to help us get to know each other and determine if I’m the right fit for your needs. During the consultation, you can share a little about what’s bringing you to therapy and learn more about my approach. Feel free to ask any questions—it’s an opportunity to explore how we can work together and decide if moving forward with a therapy intake feels right for you.

  • During the first session, I focus on getting to know you and creating a foundation of trust and comfort. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, so I aim to make this step as supportive and stress-free as possible. You’re in control of what you choose to share—there’s no rush to dive into details until you feel prepared. Together, we’ll build a sense of safety and develop tools to ensure that when you’re ready to explore deeper topics, you’ll feel supported and confident in the process.

  • Therapy is a collaborative process where you and your therapist work together to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe, nonjudgmental space. Sessions are tailored to your unique needs and goals, focusing on understanding challenges, building skills, and fostering personal growth. The pace is always guided by your comfort level, creating a path toward healing and positive change.

  • Sessions with me are warm, compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs. I create a supportive and nonjudgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences at your own pace. My approach is grounded in an evidence-based understanding of the brain and body, but it is also personable and human. Using a relational framework, I work to understand how your past impacts the present, while also helping you build tools to manage challenges and navigate life with greater confidence and balance. Sometimes I call upon strategies like EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, and more. Whether we’re processing difficult emotions or celebrating progress, my goal is to ensure you feel safe, heard, and empowered throughout our work together.

  • I charge $175 per 50 minute session for therapy.

EMDR Intensives are pro-rated at a rate of $200 per 1 hour. Sessions typically range from 3-6 hours per day for 3-5 days in addition to an intake session and a post-treatment session. We can discuss the details of what fees to expect for your intensive during a free consultation call, where we can discuss what length of session and how many days might be best for your specific needs.

  • I am an out-of-network provider. I can supply a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Coverage and reimbursement rates will depend on your specific insurance plan. I always recommend folks reach out to their insurance companies prior to initiating therapy with me to ensure that their insurance company will accept a superbill if reimbursement is a necessity.
